Daniel and Darren boated a 12 lbs and a 30 lbs salmon
This day started about 6 AM, when Dallas and I met Daniel and Darren at their motel in Anderson. After some quick intros, we were on our way to the river. When we arrived, we boarded the Vicki Ann, and headed down river, in the fog. We made our way to the first hole, where we anchored to try our luck. After about an hour, we decided to back-troll. First run, we netted one 12-14 pound salmon... a frisky bright hen. The second run produced one more hen of 30 pounds. We then worked our way down river, where we were getting debris clogging our lures, so we decided to go back up river, to the original hole where we had another hit. As we worked up the river, we had one more hit at the next hole. At this point, we decided to go up river to get in front of the fish that were moving up river. It was not until we got almost back to the ramp, when we had 3 more hits. Unfortunately... none of them stuck. By this time, with the sun going down, it was time to end the day. All in all not a bad day, with 7 or 8 hits, and 2 fish in the boat. We had fun this trip, I hope to see these guys back. Arrrr Matey's! Ken Hoffman, The River Pirate

Paul, Mark, and Matt had fun catching and releasing trout
This day started about 6:15 AM, when I met Paul, Mark, and Matt in Anderson. After a little fun conversation, we headed for the river. Upon our arrival, we discovered that the river was rising once more. So we boarded the Vicki Ann, and headed down river. We tossed out our glow bugs, and began fishing for trout and steelhead. Although the steelhead were not showing themselves, the trout were letting themselves be known. We worked hard for the trout, as the water was still rising, but we caught a number of fish, working on a catch and release basis. About 1:30 PM, we decided to anchor up for a while, and put the KwikFish out and see if we could entice a salmon. About 15-20 minutes later, one of the rods bent and tried to touch the water with it's tip, but just as fast as the tip went down, the fish had already departed. We then decided to drift for some more trout, and we caught several more. The day ended about dusk. Everyone had fun, and left with great fishing memories. Arrrr Matey's! Shawna, Ken, and Chanie with their trout and steelhead from the Sacramento River.
This day began when I met Vince and his two daughters, (Shawna and Chanie) at their motel in Anderson. It was a rainy morning, but we decided to go out anyway, at least for a short while. Upon arrival at the river, we launched and boarded the Vicki Ann. We went a short distance down river, and began fishing. We caught a few small fish on the first run. On the second run, Chanie and Shawna's rods bowed almost simultaneously, and they had two fish on, one steelhead, and one trout. We were not out for very long as the weather was getting worse, and everyone was getting wet and cold, so we decided to call it a day. Through all of the wet and cold weather, we still had lots of fun. I can't wait to have this wonderful family back, when we can fish for a while longer and add to some great memories of fishing the Sacramento River. Arrrr Matey's! Ken Hoffman, The River Pirate

Chris, with a 35 pound King from the Sacramento River.
This day started when we met Chris, Ann, and Jack at their motel in Anderson at 6 AM. We boarded the Vicki Ann, and headed down river with not much luck, so we fished for trout for a while, and caught a few little guys. Then we headed back up river, and finally anchored the Vicki Ann above a deep hole, where I had graphed numerous fish. Now, with our rods out, and the KwikFish dancing in the current, we sat back and engaged in conversation, while we waited for the fish to begin their show. After a wait, the cry of "Fish On" was heard, as Chris's rod bent down to say Hello to the bottom of the river, and after about a 15 minute fight, a hefty 35 pound King made it's way to the boat! The was a fun trip, and a really nice day on the water. Arrrr Matey's Ken Hoffman, The River Pirate

Mike and Sal holding their catch of the day, from the Sac River.
We met Josh, Sal, Mike, Lance, and Gene, at their motel in Anderson, and headed for the river. Upon our arrival, we observed that the river was rising due to the rains of the night before, and conditions were not exactly favorable, but we soldiered on. So we picked a spot, and anchored the Vicki Ann. With all rods out, and lures wagging, we were making pleasant conversation, when Mike's rod decided to point downstream, and the cry "Fish On" was heard, and a chrome bright hen of 16 pounds made it to the boat. We fished hard for several more hours, in a few more areas, when Sal hooked a 6 pound chrome bright steelhead, on a K-16 Kwikfish. Only 2 fish to the boat this trip, but everyone had a great time on the river! Arrrr Matey's! Ken Hoffman, The River Pirate

Ed, with a beautiful 40 pound hen from the Sac River.
This day began as I met Ed at the river around 7:30 AM, and we boarded the Vicki Ann. Ed was looking forward to this trip with much anticipation, as his work as a truck driver, had kept him from fishing for over a year. As we headed down river, and arrived at the first fishing spot, I turned the Vicki Ann into the current, and anchored. The cry of "Fish On" was heard, but it was not to be. We fished on for the next several hours with many hits in many holes, until we arrived back at the original hole where we had started. It was there, that once again, the cry of "Fish On" was heard, but this time, the hook stuck it's prey. After about a 10 minute fight, a beautiful 40 pound hen found it's way to the Vicki Ann, and into the live well, and the void of the previous year was now fulfilled. Ed was ecstatic! This was a great day on the river, and I hope to see Ed back a little sooner next year. Arrrr Matey's! Ken Hoffman, The River Pirate

Frank, holding his catch of the day from the Sac River.
This day started when I met Frank and his friends at their motel in Anderson, and they followed us to the river. As we boarded the Vicki Ann, Frank informed me that he was the only one that got skunked on a trip last year. This year would be different, as Frank was the first one to yell "Fish On!" He boated a beautiful 36 pound hen, followed about an hour later, when he yelled "Fish On" again, and it was a 36 pound buck this time. With all the tallies in, Frank was the clear Winner this year, with Bragging rights until next year! With 1 other fish on, and a few more hits, the day came to an end. Arrrr Matey's! Jim and his children enjoying their day on the Sacramento River.
We met Jim and his children at their Motor Home, in Anderson about 7 AM, and were soon on the river. We boarded the Vicki Ann, and the kids were full of enthusiasm. We fished hard this trip, but the water fluctuations were not with us. Jim had one take-down, but the fish soon broke away, and there were only 2 hits the whole day. The kids all had high hopes of catching fish, and their spirits were high. I felt bad for them today, as the fish were not cooperating. In spite of those misbehaving fish, these kids were smiling and laughing most of the day, and I can't wait to have them back, for a wonderful productive day of fishing. Arrrr Matey's! Glenn, with his bright salmon from the Sacramento River.
This day started when I met Glenn at his place of business. We proceded on to the river, and arrived about 7 AM. The first hole we visited did not produce ner' a bite, so we continued on up river to the next hole. As we turned the Vicki Ann into the current, and let out our lines... WHAM, Glenn was on! Not a large fish, by Sacramento River standards, but a beautiful chrome bright hen of 12 pounds. We fished hard for the rest of the day, and had several fish on, however, these fish were theives, and stole multiple lures. All in all, we had a great day, and the fishing was good, but the little theives took some of the Pirate's best lures. Arrrr Matey's! Ken Hoffman, The River Pirate

A happy trio, holding their bright silver salmon from the Sac River.
This trip started on a chilly morning about 6 AM, as we arrived at the Sac River and launched the Vicki Ann. Heading down river, we fished for a couple of hours before we hooked the first fish, and with a hoop and a holler, the fish came to the boat. With stink now on the boat, we only managed 2 or 3 more hits in the next 2-3 hours, when we decided to go back up river, to a small run that I am familiar with, where we boated 2 more Sac River Kings. Not huge fish on this trip, however, nice bright silver bullets, with scales busting. They weighed in... a pair at 26, and one smaller fish of 12 pounds. A good time was had by all! Arrrr Matey's!
